Editorial standards

A clear line between reporting and promotion.

How VOL approaches independence, sourcing, partnerships, corrections, and transparency.

How we work

VOL Collective is an independent editorial studio. These standards explain the choices behind our journalism, the boundaries around our partnerships, and what readers can expect when they spend time with us.

At a glance

The short version
01
Stories are chosen for readers, not sold to brands.
02
Paid work is labeled, and independent coverage stays independent.
03
When we get something important wrong, we correct it clearly.
01

Editorial independence

Our coverage is chosen for its relevance to readers, not because a brand has bought space, sent a gift, or asked for a mention. Editorial decisions belong to the VOL desk.

Partnerships and advertising support the publication, but they do not determine what we report, the conclusions we reach, or whether a story runs at all.

02

Reporting with care

We aim to get the important things right: names, titles, dates, materials, prices, places, and the context around a claim. We seek information from the people closest to a story and distinguish reported fact from analysis, interpretation, and opinion.

When a story involves competing accounts, we give the relevant parties a fair opportunity to respond. If a source cannot be named, we explain enough about their role for readers to understand why their perspective matters.

03

Access, gifts, and samples

Invitations, studio visits, product loans, samples, and other forms of access can be part of reporting in our categories. They do not guarantee coverage or a favorable conclusion.

We do not accept payment in exchange for editorial treatment. Any material relationship that could affect how a story is read should be clear from the story itself.

05

Reviews and recommendations

We recommend work because it is interesting, well made, useful, or worth paying attention to — not because it is the most expensive or the easiest to access. A mention is not an endorsement of every product, policy, or business practice associated with a brand.

Commercial links or other relationships will be identified when they are relevant to the reader’s decision.

06

Corrections and updates

We are committed to correcting material errors clearly and promptly. When a correction changes the meaning of a published story, we will say what changed rather than quietly rewriting the record.

If you spot an error, missing credit, or misleading passage, please email desk@volcollective.com with the story link and the detail in question.

07

Conflicts of interest

Editors, writers, and contributors should disclose meaningful personal or professional relationships that could affect a story. When a conflict cannot be managed through disclosure, we will reassign the work or decline it.

The same standard applies to awards, submissions, event coverage, and any other part of our editorial work.

08

Tools and transparency

We may use technology to organize research, check structure, or support production. We do not fabricate quotes, sources, reporting, or documentary images, and we do not present generated material as observed fact.

The responsibility for every published word, image, and credit remains with the VOL Collective team.
